Good Versus Evil: Mermaid in a Jar
There is a battle being waged over at Simply B Stamps! Good vs Evil is the theme for the current Facebook group challenge. Betty drew two gorgeous mermaid images: one "good" and one "bad" and let us each select which one we preferred to work with. I chose evil, of course; Evil is always sexier in my opinion! lol This is Spika the Bad Mermaid. The best part? The image was free and all you had to do was create something for the challenge with it to be able to play along next month (and to be eligible for the prize)!
So after much deliberation on what would be evil enough for Miss Boo, Corinne, and the rest of the SBS gals, I finally decided that mermaid in a jar was the way to go! I colored the image with Copics and fussy cut her then adhered her to a popsicle stick (No, not a craft stick... I had no idea where I stashed those. Literally a popsicle stick. Right out of the freezer. I made Kayne eat an orange one so I could have the stick!) Anyway, then came the fun part! I poured sable Decor Sand into this lovely jar I purchased at Walmart. Then I added lilac glass gems, a little ominous looking "seaweed" courtesy of the Halloween picks already out at AC Moore, and a treasure chest. She looked like the type to hoard treasure so... Speaking of which, Kayne was none too happy when I explained the treasure chest was for Mommy and not for him!
Next I went to work on the top. I covered it in netting and then added a few purple pearl strands before adding the Styrofoam skull (another Halloween pick), flowers, and some punched branches made with my Martha Stewart punch.
This was so much fun! I'm not usually one for altered items, but I'm glad I went this direction rather than just a card. The pictures really don't do it justice... It was hard to get good photos due to the flash reflecting or being too dark without it.
She now sits proudly in my bedroom! I hope you like my evil little captive as much as I do! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous evening!
Markers used: Copics (E00, E11, E21, 100, N2, N4, N6, N8, V12, V15, V25, YG00, YG03).
