Hooray for Birthdays!

Hi!  There has been quite a bit going on here.  This month I decided to start cleaning my craft room AND my son's bedroom, which got a complete makeover!  I also somehow managed to give myself a pinched nerve in my neck resulting in pain all down my arm which has really cramped my style these last few weeks.   I haven't been doing much of anything.  No reading.  And only the occasional crafting.  This past weekend I had an 84th birthday party to attend and a coworker was celebrating his special day as well.  I splurged a bit over at My Favorite Things Stamps this month and I decided it was the perfect opportunity to break out some of my new goodies.

The first card was made for my great-aunt's birthday.  I wanted something elegant and simple and I think this card is the perfect combination of both.  Also, notice.  No coloring and it's a standard A2 size instead of one of my usual 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" squares.  Trying to step out of my comfort zone a bit more...

My co-worker has a characteristic red beard and it was a no brainer to use Hipster Cat from Some Odd Girl combined with new dies acquired from MFT Stamps for his birthday card.  I embossed the sentiment using a stamp from the MFT Stamps Essential Sentiments stamp set.

Smile

Hi!  How is everyone so far this week?  I have another card to share with you.  And I've done something I almost never do...  Created a clean and simple card!  Image is Photographer from Alicia's Little Shop.  Sketch is CAS(E) This Sketch (cts#34).  The photo frame was created using the InstaFrame My Favorite Things Die-namics.  Sentiments are also from MFT (Captured Memories and Birthday Sentiments).  The chevron was cut from the Simple Stories Summer Fresh 6x6 pad.  Though it's not my usual style I kind of like the way it turned out...  What do you think?

It's been a pretty uneventful week so far, and I'm looking forward to a little holiday time off with the small man!  How about you?  Anything fun or patriotic planned for your 4th festivities?

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, R32, E23, E31, E79, R24, R27, R29, R89, YG93, BG10, BG72, N0, N2, N4, B32, B34, B37).

The Sweet Stop - Sketch #139

Hello and Merry Christmas! I know I've been scarce this month and I apologize. It's that most wonderful time of the year where we are all busy, busy, busy! I have been crafting, baking, shopping, and wrapping like a mad woman all month! And now it's crunch time! There is going to be a marathon baking and crafting session going on tonight! But before I dive head first into the holiday madness, I wanted to share a card I made today. It was a request from a co-worker for his wife, and I have to say I was pleased with the end result. Some days you've got mojo, others not so much! lol Today was a mojo day!

I used the sketch #139 from The Sweet Stop, but apparently they already picked their featured cards for the challenge. I'm not sure why they would do so before the challenge closes, but it's the holidays so I'll cut them some slack! :) I rotated the sketch to accommodate my image and added a few extra embellishments to give it my own personal character. My image is from a set by My Favorite Things, called Santa Baby. I love their Who's That Girl line! I paper pieced the clothes on Santa and his holiday honey. I also used bits of cotton ball on Santa's beard and "fur" trim. The rest is colored with Copics. Paper are from an old retired Stampin' Up pack. The rest of the goodies are from my stash. I've been infatuated with these Tim Holtz muse tokens lately!

Despite being over-tired I am really looking forward to this weekend! IF I can get through the next 20 hours of holiday prep first, that is! lol Thanks for stopping by! I did make two other cards this week so I'll try to get those posted shortly as well.

May your merry be very!

Snuggle Bunnies and Monkey Tricks

I am sitting on the floor with my son, Kayne, and as I type he is babbling away to me in baby gibberish, complete with hand gestures. I am certain he is telling me a funny story about his day at day care, or perhaps he is scolding me to get off the computer, that this is OUR play time. Either way, it is precious, and I chatter back. He is only 8 months old, however; I don't have the heart to tell him that I don't yet understand what must make perfect sense to him. But he is learning in leaps and bounds. Just the other day we discovered that he can do "pat-a-cake" with his hands by himself when I recite the words. I look at him, and I marvel in the depth of the mother/child bond. I live my life from an entirely different perspective now. Though it is almost Father's Day, and dads are important too, I wanted to post a few cards made recently for some special "moms" in my life - one who recently became a first time grandmother and the other a first time mom.

The first card was made using the My Favorite Things set, Snuggle Bunnies by Stephanie Fizer. Colored with my Prismacolor Art Markers and paper pieced, this adorable duo are a-snooze on a sliver of the blue moon. I cut the cuddlers out and popped them up, layered on top of Stampin' Up's Baja Breeze and Chocolate Chip card stock paired with color coordinating Ski Slope designer paper. The "Nana" embellishment is from Me & My Big Ideas and was the whole basis of my color scheme. My friend welcomed her first grandchild, a baby girl, when her daughter gave birth three days before Mother's Day. How sweet is that?

The next card features a digital image I snagged for free on Mo's Digital Pencil Too. If you aren't familiar with Mo's work's I suggest you take a peek... You won't be disappointed! This silly fellow is called Monkey Tricks, and he was perfect for a new baby card for my friend. She loves monkeys and, as such, it is no surprise that they are her nursery theme. Again the main image was colored with Prismacolor Art Markers. Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, Cranberry Crisp and Old Olive card stock, all from Stampin' Up were chosen based on the colors in the designer paper collection from My Mind's Eye called Everyday Tango. A piece of Stampin' Up Pumpkin Pie grosgrain ribbon and a computer generated sentiment, punched and popped up, complete the fun, playful card.

Thanks for looking! I hope to be back soon with more posts and more cards. In the meantime, I will kiss my little man good night and look forward to what new wonderment tomorrow will bring him. And me.
