Some Odd Girl Design Team Inspiration: Teacher's Pet Tia

Hi!  It's my turn to share some crafty inspiration over on the Some Odd Girl blog today.  Every month we host a challenge over in our Facebook community group.  To spice things up, there is an optional theme that you can follow.  This month the theme is Back To School!  (My poor kid has been back in school since August!  Haha!)  But this is one of those themes that is handy to create for all year round!  I now have a teacher's card should I need it for a birthday or those thank you and appreciation days that pop up!

I colored up Teacher's Pet Tia for the occasion!  She is colored with Copics and die cut.  I used a bunch of fun dies on this card!  Check out the product list below for all the details!  We hope that you'll join us over on Facebook and add a SOG project to the challenge folder!  Remember, the theme is optional so don't let that hold you back!

The Paper Shelter Extravaganza

Hi!  I have decided that if every day were 48 hours instead of 24 I might actually get some things accomplished!  Like blogging my non-design team cards!  I have such a back log of them that I don't even know where to start!  Ok, so maybe I'll start here with The Paper Shelter.  I've got a couple of school themed cards followed by miscellaneous craftiness for varying occasions!

Up first is the card I made for my son for back to school.  He went back last week, but traditionally (when I was growing up) the week after Labor Day was when classes started.  This cute image is In the Class and he is colored with Copics.

And thank goodness for the teachers who spend 6 hours a day with our precious littles and teach them things, often giving so much of themselves in the process.  I always try to make and give teacher appreciation cards and gifts twice during the year - once for National Teacher's Appreciation Day and once for the last day of school.  (They usually get cards and treat for Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day too!  Because they deserve it!) . This card was for my son's 3rd grade teacher at the end of school this past June.  This image is Vintage Teacher and she is colored with Copics.

Back To School Madness

Hi there!  Well, we successfully navigated the first week of school here and are now set to enjoy a long holiday weekend!  I thought I'd try to use some of the time to get caught up on a few things...  like blogging!

I still can't quite believe that my little man is in second grade!  We have a little tradition where I make him a special first day of school breakfast (with bacon, of course) and a card.  This year I used the adorable Back To School Madness digi from The Paper Shelter.  I colored the image wih Copics and then cut and matted it using Classic Circles Nestabilities (Spellbinders).

It's no surprise that I piled on some dies (although not nearly as many as some of my cards).  Here I've used Tim Holtz Weathered Clock (Sizzix) as well as Book Brackets, Clipboard Border, and Brackets and Arrows (La-La-Land Crafts).  The notebook edge is a border punch.  The fishtail flag is either a die or a punch.  I can't remember which!  Lol  The "test" is from a 12x12 designer paper that has been in my stash forever called The Boyfriend Papers by Cosmo Cricket.  Black paper clip and 2nd Grade sticker are also from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by and wishing a wonderful Labor Day weekend to my US followers!

Back to School

Summer can't be over already?!?!  But alas, it is!  School has begun and  it's Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of Summer.  We seem to be settling back into the routine just fine, and I look forward to Fall, but I'm just not ready for my small man to be getting so big!  He is a 1st grader now and it seems like just yesterday that he only a promise I had yet to meet.

I like to create traditions for important days so last year I made him card and special breakfast for his first day of school.  I decided it would be an annual thing, something to look forward to that added a bit of fun and lots of love to a day that can be scary (or at least nervous butterfly inducing).  This year I used Back To School Luka from La-La-Land Crafts on his card.  He is colored with Copics and fussy cut.  I also used a couple of LLLC dies - Open Hearts Border, Hearts Doily Border, and Heart Banner.  The notebook edge was made using a border punch.  I added a length of ruler ribbon, mini Scrabble tiles to spell out his name, two Tim Holtz metal embellishments (muse token and pin), a punched apple from Marth Stewart, and a couple of chipboard stickers from my stash.  Papers are DCWV - Grade School stack.

Breakfast was fresh cut strawberries and bananas, bacon, and an English muffin.  He is loving school and his teacher this year so we're off to a fantastic start!

I hope everyone has something fun planned for their weekend!  Anyone plan to spend it crafting?  Yeah, that's what I though!  Enjoy!

First Day

Today is a BIG day here!  Today is my small man's first day of school.  Ever.  Though he's been in day care since he was 6 weeks old, this is different.  His home day cares felt, like, well, home.  This is the first time I will send him off to a classroom environment.  Not only that but he also starts a new after school program as well!  All of this has me more than a little anxious, but I know my smart, sweet, and social boy will be just fine.  Me, probably not so much.

Last week we said good bye to his day care provider of 2+ years.  She is a wonderful lady and we will miss her!  Luckily, thanks to social media, I'll be able to keep in touch with her, but I wanted to do something special for her on our last day.  I purchased a gift certificate as well as a lovely flowering plant, and made a card for her.  I selected Grow from Saturated Canary as my image.  She is colored with Copics and cut using Labels Eight Nestabilities (Spellbinders).  Sketch is based on Tuesday Morning Sketches (#264).  I'm too late to link it up, but it was a fun layout.  I added some extra elements: Fishtail Flags Stax Die-namics, Magnolia View Master Doohickeys, a metal binder clip, Scrabble tiles, a big flower, ruler ribbon, and a notebook edge punch.  Papers are Basic Grey - Out of Print and We R Memory Keepers - Grandma's Kitchen: Pen Pals.

Markers used: Copics (E00, E04, E11, E21, E51, E53, E55, E59, N0, N2, YR00, YR02, YG93, R20, R81, R83, R85, BG10, BG13, BG23).

You've already seen the card I made for Kayne that I'll give him before he goes off to school.  I also made him an Artist's Trading Card (ATC) for his lunch box.  I used another Saturated Canary image: Sweet Boy.  I made this with their Facebook group challenge in mind but missed linking that up as well!  lol  He is cropped/fussy cut and colored with Copics.  Papers are DCWV - Grade School stack.  On the back is a note from me with some momma love!  I know he can't read yet, but he'll recognize my art and maybe one of the teachers will read it to him!  Any bets on whether it will make it home in his lunch box or end up in the school trash...?  Haha!

Markers used: Copics (E00, E04, E11, E21, E51, E55, E57, E59, R02, R20, R35, R37, R39, R89, B32, B34, B37, Y35, YG93).

Such a big day for us here!  I will be counting down the minutes at work until I can go pick him up!  I can't wait to hear all about his first day and the beginning of his new adventure!

She's Got Brains

I was asked to be a guest designer for Love To Create Challenges and I happily accepted!  I was beyond thrilled that the sponsor for the challenge was going to be Simply B Stamps!  Challenge #80 has a Back To School theme, but with Betty's images anything could happen when the bell rings!  Like zombies.  Yup, zombies could be roaming the halls of your school.  I mean, it's SCHOOL!  What better place to look for brains than that?!?!

I've used Zombie Rio from the Zombie Teens Everyday collection.  She is colored with Copics and fussy cut.  Papers are from an older pad that I dug out of my stash by Lily Bee Designs called Picket Fence.  A couple of Spellbinders dies were used (Classic Oval, Classic Circles, and Lacy Ovals).  I generated the sentiment myself on the computer- a little zombie humor with a take on the saying "the mind is a terrible thing to waste".  The only other embellishments I added were flowers and flat back pearls.  The layout is from Sweet Sketch Wednesday (#220).

Hope you had an amazing weekend!
