Bedtime Stories

Hey!  I'm back with my second creation as a Guest Designer for Simply Challenged Challenges and Simply B Stamps!  The challenge this fortnight is "Create Your Own Background".  That means create a background for your project using stencils, stamps (no digis), sprays, inks, and the like.  No embossing folders are allowed either.

I was given the adorable Rio and Toots Bedtime Stories to work with so I decided to create a book cover card.  I used the Tim Holtz Book Cover stamp and Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and Old Paper.  My image is colored with Copics and fussy cut.  I added some "hinges" made with one of the Spellbinders Fancy Tags dies/  I used more Tim Holtz products with the Ornate Plate and Corners.

I have to admit that  I seriously stressed out this project and put it off until the very last minute.  It's funny how when I finally sat down to work on it, I had a flash of inspiration and I must say I'm pretty pleased with the results!  I want to thank the lovely ladies at Simply Challenged Challenges for having me this month and special thanks to Miss Boo for sharing her fabulous images!  I do love SBS!!!

Totally 50s with SBS

Hello!  I've been busy crafting this week, but I haven't been able to show off any of my creations.  So I thought it was time to share one.  The current challenge over at Simply Challenged Challenges is "Totally 50s" and there is not one single entry yet.  I thought I'd get things started.  There has to be a minimum of 6 entries for there to be a prize awarded so hopefully a few others will be inspired to play along!

I've been coloring up a lot of Simply B Stamps images lately, and here I've used Betty Monroe from the Teen Scene Go To Hollywood collection.  This iconic pose is from the movie The Seven Year Itch, which Marilyn did in 1955.  I thought she was perfect for the challenge theme!  She is colored with Copics and fussy cut.  Papers are Mama-Razzi from Bo Bunny, and the chipboard sticker is from the same collection.  I added a few die cut stars (Stars Five from Spellbinders), Film Strip Ribbon from Tim Holtz, and a sentiment from a Gina K stamp set called Quite A Catch.  The sketch is from Sunday Sketch and Stamp (#172).

I hope your weekend is off to a great start!  I think ours is going to be a quiet one again.  That could potentially mean more crafting time for me!  Yay!

Pool Party

Hey!  I'm back for the third day in a row with another project!  It's been pretty busy around here this week!  Sunday we attended a "super awesome" (Kayne's current favorite saying when something is cool and/or fun) birthday pool party.  The birthday boy was turning 6 and his mom rented an inflatable pool complete with water slide.  I have to say that "super awesome" absolutely did apply!  I decided to make a pool/water themed card to accompany the gift.

I picked a Simply B Stamps Teen Scene image because I never seem to get to play with my SBS images and I love them!  This is Pool Time Miller from the Teen Scene Summer collection.  I colored him with Copics and cut him out using my Classic Circles die from Spellbinders.  I then sponged some clouds behind him.  The current Simply Challenged theme is "Heavy on the Embellishments" so I went all out!  I used the Spellbinders Crown Circles die to make a "sun" and a MFT cloud die as well.  The waves are a Fiskars punch and I wrapped baker's twine around then for a little something extra.  I also added a bottle cap, a spiral clip, a sticker, a metal circle sentiment, and a few gems in the corners.  Papers are Little Yellow Bicycle - Splash.  My layout is Bearly Mine Challenge's Monthly Sketch (#97).

The birthday boy was more impressed with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures and Lego set that were his present, but his mom appreciated the card!  And, as you can see, what an awesome pool party it was!  I was almost wishing I'd brought my suit...  lol  Almost.

Speaking of pools, we've also been going to Kayne's very first swimming lessons this week!  Look at my small man go!

Tomorrow is my birthday and the start of a brand new decade!  I wonder what adventures it will bring...  Birthday week has been fun so far!  Have you joined The Corrosive Challenge and Sassy Studio Designs yet for the 80s to the Max blog hop?  If not, head over to one of the blogs for all the details!  There are prizes galore and a FREE SSD digi for joining the challenge!

Thanks for visiting and hope you'll come back soon!

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 12

I weathered the storm yesterday and it was business as usual today.  Which meant a full day of work and a visit to my parents' with the small man!  But the challenge for Day 12 of Simply B(etty) Stamps 13 Days of Halloween closes at 9pm.  Knowing I wouldn't be home in time to craft and blog, I brought some supplies to work with me.  The card was colored and assembled on the fly and I'm now on my mom's computer writing the post.  I do apologize for the lousy photos.  If you remember, my camera died so I am taking them with my phone and the lighting here was not optimal.

Anyway, having come so far, how could I quit at this point?  The theme for Day 12 at Simply Challenged Challenges is Haunted Places and we were to use a haunted house on our project.  Mine is right on the paper, which if from My Mind's Eye - Scary Sparkle.  I've used Lola and Louie from the Every Day Teen Scene collection.  She is colored with Copics, fussy cut, and popped up with foam squares.  I added a few flowers, a "haunted" banner from K&Company, a Tim Holtz metal corner, and a Fleur de Lis Squares Nestabilities die cut from Spellbinders.

I'm not thrilled with this one, but lets hope I get points for determination and perseverance!  I am off to color while watching NCIS then it will be home for more baking for tomorrow is HALLOWEEN!  I'm working a half day and then the spook-tactular fun begins!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fa-BOO-lous evening!

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 11

Oh my stars and garters!  What a day!  It started off with a fun trip to a local children's discovery farm for their Halloween party.  Kayne wore his Frankenstein costume from last year, and we had a blast!  Except for the pervading mist.  The cold, raw kind that penetrates your bones.  The storm is definitely on its way so before we headed home we stopped at the grocery store for those just-in-case provisions.

If all that outdoor fun and battening down the hatches for the storm wasn't enough, I had to come home and cook dinner then make a card for Day 11 of Simply B(etty) Stamps 13 Days of Halloween!  The theme at Simply Challenged Challenges is a color challenge: Candy Corn (orange, yellow, and white) or Caramel Apple (caramel and green).  Black is allowed as a neutral.  Both are yummy, but I went with Candy Corn.  Then today of all days, two days before my favorite holiday, my camera decided to die!  So I apologize for the quality of the photos.  They were taken with my phone.

I will admit this was a rush job and not my best work, but I am glad I made the effort.  I printed Little Witch Ariel from the Jude & the Rockers collection and colored her with Copics.  I stuck to the color scheme and made her a candy corn witch!  How much fun is orange hair?  Huh?  Huh?  I then fussy cut her so I could pop her up in the middle of my sketch from Crazy 4 Challenges (C4C160).  I embossed a spider web on black card stock behind her.  Papers are My Mind's Eye - Halloween Scary Sparkle.  I used a couple of clear sentiment stamps: one from My Favorite Things - Make the Date (October) and one from Clear Art Stamps - Halloween Fun (Trick or Treat).  The rest is from my stash: pearls, a Martha Stewart candy embellishment, a Tim Holtz metal corner, glitter chipboard numbers, and a sparkly spider from Jolee's Boutique.  The Star Circle is a Nestabilities die from Spellbinders.

Eleven down, two days to go, folks!  I will be a card-making and baking fool these next two days.  Let's hope I don't lose power!  While I can still bake no problem without power since my stove is gas and uses no electricity, coloring by flashlight or candle light would prove challenging, and blogging even more so.  I hope everyone in the storm's path stays safe!  Check back tomorrow to see what sort of hocus pocus I've been up to...

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, E000, R20, R00, YR04, YR07, YR15, YR18, Y32, Y35, Y38, W4, W6, W8, W10).

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 10

Fairuza Balk as Nancy Downs
Talk about cutting it close, but here she is!  My entry for Day 10 of Simply B(etty) Stamps 13 Days of Halloween challenge!  The theme at Simply Challenged Challenges is Ghouls, Ghosts, Witches, Killers... from your favorite movie.  Using a non-persona stamp we were to create a project based on our favorite movie character.  I asked for and received special permission from Betty Boo herself to alter Lola Addams to make Nancy Downs from The Craft.  She is my favorite greedy, power hungry psycho-witch!

Lola Addams as Nancy is colored with Copics and fussy cut.  I did away with her braid and her dolly to make her look more like Nancy.  The papers are Martha Stewart- Elegant Witch and DCWV- The Ghosts and Goblins matstack.  I made a frame using the Fleur de Lis Squares Nestabilities from Spellbinders and put a piece of Tim Holtz filmstrip behind it.  I used mini Scrabble tiles to spell the word "CRAFT".  I stamped a Ouija board stamp in Tuxedo Black on kraft card stock and distressed it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I can't remember who makes the stamp as it is a loose unmounted one I bought some time ago.  My finishing touches were some flowers (black roses, of course) and bling flourishes.

I am utterly amazed I got this made, blogged, linked and entered in time!  I got home at 7:30pm.  I sat down at my desk at 7:50pm with nothing more than the colored image to work with!  Sometimes it's amazing what you can do in an hour!  Three more challenges to go!  I wonder what the next one will be...

Markers used: Copics (E11, E21, E00, E000, R20, BG10, BG15, W4, W6, W8, W10) and Prismacolor Art Markers (150).

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 6

With less than thirty minutes to spare I'm here with my entry for Day 6 of Simply B(etty) Stamps 13 Days of Halloween challenge!  The theme this time around is "Slime and Grime".  Over on the Simply Challenged Challenges blog we've been instructed to use lime green and distressing on our projects.

I selected the Bride of Chrisenstein from the 2012 Teen Scene Halloween collection.  She is colored with Copics, fussy cut, and popped up with foam squares.  My sketch is an awesome one from Graphicat Sketches (#18).  Papers are Brenda Walton's Haunted by K&Company.  I have used my Tim Holtz tool to distress the edges and then they were inked with Distress Ink in Antique Paper.  That covers the "grime".  For the "slime" there are a few elements that meet the requirement.  I have her skin colored up in lovely shades of lime.  I also used some Stampin' Up Green Galore card stock.  My Martha Stewart Drippy Goo punch provides a nice border for the black velvet ribbon.  I also added two lime hued flowers.  The Halloween ticket was made using a Tim Holtz stamp and die combo.  I distressed the edges a bit and sponged them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  My final element is a metal corner embellishment.

I am loving these challenges but this one was a bit tough with less than two days to complete it.  Being a single mom who works full-time makes time management challenging sometimes.  I am hoping to be able to play along with the next challenge since the weekend will be here.  I'd love to enter all 13...  We're just about half way there now so we'll see!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day!

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 5

Day 5 of the 13 Days of Halloween at Simply B(etty) Stamps is here and "Oh What A Wicked Web We Weave" is the theme.  The challenge over at Simply Challenged Challenges is to use cobwebs, spiderwebs, spiders on your creation.  I have used Little Dark Homemaker Betty for the occasion.  She has a web and a spider at her elbow.  I colored her with Copics, fussy cut her, and popped her up with foam squares on top of that exquisite spider web die cut from Cheery Lynn.  All of my designer papers have spiders and/or webs on them,  They are from the Martha Stewart Haunted mat pad and the DCWV Midnight Spell stack.  My layout is courtesy of Sketch Saturday (#229).  I was positively inspired by this one and my card came together quickly!  I embossed the horizontal panel with my Cuttlebug spiderweb folder and added a layer of lace over it to mimic the look of the purple designer paper.  I also used my Martha Stewart spiderweb border punch.  A few flowers and a couple of glittery spiders (Jolee's Boutique stickers) add the finishing touches.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things and is punched with the Stampin' Up Word Window punch.

Five down, eight to go!  Looking forward to the next challenge! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day!

Simply B Stamps 13 Days of Halloween: Day 4

I continue to play along with Simply B(etty) Stamps 13 Days of Halloween challenges!  Today I have Day 4 to show you...  The Simply Challenged theme is "All Aglow".  I have used Cacklin' London from the Teen Scene Halloween 2012 collection.  She is colored with Copics.  My glow is achieved with Martha Stewart glow-in-the-dark glitter!  I used Glossy Accents to adhere it to the potion being brewed in the cauldron and the tall bottle.  The layout is courtesy of Charisma Cardz Challenges (#40).
